31 August 2010 [11:54] - TODAY.AZ
Turkey will chair the UN Security Council from Sept. 1 for a month, the Turkish news website Haberturk reported.

The chairman powers will move to the country from the Security Council permanent member - Russia.

Turkey was elected non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for two years in 2009 and once had led the UN Security Council.

Start of Turkey's presidency coincides with the annual 65th session of the UN General Assembly, which will be held at the headquarters in New York on Sept. 20- 22.

A delegation of senior Turkish officials led by President Abdullah Gul and Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu will leave for New York in mid-September to conduct bilateral and multilateral negotiations within the framework of participation in the General Assembly's session.
