A tepid match came to life midway through the second half when Kayserispor striker Mehmet Topuz, making only his second international appearance, was dismissed. Rashad Sadygov quickly handed Azerbaijan the lead from the penalty spot, and his side looked on course for a famous win until Hasan Kabze's 77th-minute equaliser.
The result nevertheless means more disappointment for Fatih Terim's young team, who are preparing for UEFA EURO 2008™ qualifying missed out on UEFA EURO 2004™ and the 2006 FIFA World Cup. Azerbaijan, meanwhile, will take heart after a second draw in two games in Baku, following a goalless draw with World Cup finalists Ukraine in February.
