Azeri population circa 8.5m

The population of Azerbaijan increased by 47,000 (0.6%) in the first half of 2006 to reach 8,483,000 as of July 1.

51.6% of the people live in cities, while the rest in rural areas. Men make up 49% of the total figure, AssA-Irada reports.

The average age of the population is 31. The average life expectancy is 72 years, as it ranges between 69.6 on men and 75.1 on women.
