In January-June, 4,023 crimes, including 433 grave ones, or 19.5% and 29.3% respectively over last year's period, were registered in the capital, the Baku deputy police chief Yashar Aliyev told a meeting on outcomes of the first half of 2006.
According to Assa-Irada, Aliyev said the number of robberies went down from 62 to 57, while that of rapes remained unchanged, and those of manslaughter - rose from 32 to 33.
The Baku police chief Maharram Aliyev spoke about some violations and shortcomings in the activity of the Baku police, in particular, those observed in the area of booking crimes. The heads of registration and passport departments in three districts of the capital have been punished over irregularities, he said.
Aliyev also voiced concern over the fact that a number of crimes remain undisclosed.
