Nazim Alekberov: "Fire happened because of cigarette"

Deputy Justice Minister, the chief of Penitentiary service Nazim Alakberov told the APA accident happened in the fourth corps of the jail in the morning.

Saying that the lifer Mahir Mustafayev suffered from epilepsy, Nazim Alakberov said that prisoner's cell-mate was in the meeting.

"The prisoner was alone in the cell. While smoking, he had heart attack and fire happened because of the cigarette. The controllers felt the smell and opened the door and helped him," he said.

Alekberov said that Mustafayev was taken to the medical institution of Penitentiary service, but he died there. Before his death, in written statement Mustafayev confirmed the fact that the fire happened because of the cigarette. Alekberov said that a criminal case was launched on the facts in Garadagh Prosecutor's office.

Garadagh Prosecutor Tariyel Gurbanov told the APA that the investigation is under way.
