Proposal to tighten fines for traffic rules' violations submitted to President's Administration

29 January 2007 [12:48] - TODAY.AZ
Interior Ministry State Traffic Police Department worked out a package of proposals considering tightening the fines for violations of traffic rules, and submitted to the President's Administration.

The responsibility for violations of traffic rules should be strengthened, the department chief Arastun Majidov told the APA.

"The proposals do not only consider increasing fines. The legislation does not differentiate the driver who has driving rights with the driver whose rights have been limited. If the driver whose driving rights have been limited drives cars, or he drives car being drunkard, this person is punished in both cases. For example in Turkey if driver is drunkard, in the first case his car is kept in stop for a week, in the second case for six months," he said.

Majidov noted that a driver can be called to account for several times a day.

"We have proposed to make the penalties stricter. This issue will be considered soon," department chief stated.
