Communications and Information Technologies Ministry Teleradio Unit Technical Director Mikayil Abbasov told APA that Azerbaijan National Television and Radio Council has warned Turkey to sign a legal agreement by June 1.
"If TRT refuses or fails to ink the deal, Azerbaijan will pull it off the air on June 1 after the decision of the Council," he said.
He said TRT's transmission coverage in Azerbaijan’s territory was cut to 30% from 80% as it refused to conclude the agreement. It broadcasts 11 hours a day compared to 18 hours it took the air before mid March.
Abbasov added that TRT delegation has visited Baku to discuss details. "The Turkish broadcaster said it would sign in the short run. As per the agreement, TRT has to make payment in tax for broadcasts in the territory of Azerbaijan in accordance with prices set by the Tariff Council. It intends to install new transmitters for expanding its coverage to 80%-90% here," he underscored.
