Justice Ministry considers 170 inquiries on extradition of Azerbaijani citizens

The Justice Ministry is considering about 60 inquiries on extradition of foreign citizens detained in Azerbaijan.

Zavar Gafarov, head of international department of Justice Ministry told APA most of the inquiries deal with the imprisoned citizens of Iran, Russia, Georgia, Ukraine and Turkey.

Gafarov said one Ukrainian citizen was extradited this year. Eight Azerbaijani citizens sentenced in Georgia and Russia were extradited this year. He said Justice Ministry is now considering about 170 inquiries on the extradition of Azerbaijani citizens from foreign countries. Ukraine agreed to extradite three Azerbaijanis but they could not arrive in Azerbaijan as Russia did not let to use its territory as transit.

Justice Ministry is looking for alternative ways. He said Amnesty Act approved by the parliament on May 8 cover foreign citizens too. There are 10 Iranian citizens whom the latest Amnesty act concerns.
