15 September 2008 [16:26] - TODAY.AZ
The number of Azerbaijanis, who died in the result of the crash of Boeing-737 in Perm, is 12 people. Of them eight are Azerbaijanis by nationality and four are Mountain Jews, members of the same family, coming from the Guba region of Azerbaijan, said Jamal Mamedov, chairman of the department of the All-Russian Congress of Azerbaijanis in Perm.

He said these were final figures of the death toll among Azerbaijanis.

He said by some information some of the deceased Azerbaijanis were Russian citizens. According to the chairman of the congress it is too difficult to identify the bodies of all of the 88 deceased.

"Identification is possible only through DNA tests. Only after exact definition, it will be possible to speak of their transfer to the relatives. Recognition will take time", said he and added that this process may take several months.

Mamedov noted that they had twice contacted the Azerbaijani embassy to Russia on the air crash issue.

"Most of the relatives have arrived on the spot", said the chairman. The decision of the Russian government to allocate up to 2,000,000 rubles to the families of people, who died in the air crash, will also refer to the Azerbaijani citizens. The flight has been insured for more than $600,000,000".

He found it difficult to say what became the cause of the crash.

"Both black boxes have been found and their decoding may clarify the issue", concluded Mamedov.
