Azad Isazade: "Bullying in the army is encouraged by officers"

20 November 2008 [12:05] - TODAY.AZ
No one deals with the moral and psychological preparation of future soldiers and sergeants of Azerbaijani army before recruitment, said famous psychologist Azad Isazade, commenting on the psychological state of conscripts in Azerbaijani army.

According to him, the conscripts are subjected to moral and psychological pressure of talks about "bullying", corruption, malnutrition, anti-sanitarian conditions in our army.

"It is another issue whether it is all real, but they definite impose their extremely negative influence on the state of the conscripts", said the psychologist.

He agreed that, certainly, the public must not be silent about the negative moments of the service in the Azerbaijani army.

"But on the other hand, in the absence of the due moral and psychological preparation of conscripts in the army, the receipt of negative information about the army service, makes a conscript think of either spending money on all his commanders or start demonstrating himself strong from the first moment of army service, which is, undoubtedly, a negative symptom.

According to the psychologist, there are numerous military units in Azerbaijan, which have all conditions for normal service in the army.

"I mean social conditions, as well as the observance of normal  relations between the servicemen. There are also military units, where cases of bullying, corruption and poor sanitary conditions are observed. Merely, negative information is always more widely spread than positive", said he and added that the main reasons of "bullying" in the Azerbaijani army is the incorrect work with the soldiers, by the commanders.

"Bullying in the army is encouraged by officers. Without a hidden agreement of a commander of a division or a battalion, no sergeant will dare to the steps, called "bullying", said he.
