International Telecommunication Union allocates three orbital positions to Azerbaijan

He said two positions are for meeting internal needs of the country and the third is for international consumption. Meanwhile, the Ministry has prolonged a close tender for development of the national satellite, involving five companies from Russia, USA and France until April 30.

Azerbaijan plans to launch the first satellite in 2010 and the second in 2011. They are estimated at USD 100-170 mln each. One of the satellites is proposed to be financed by the state and funds will be raised for the second one.
