Ambassador: A ship with eight Azerbaijani citizens on board is waiting in the territorial waters of India for three months

23 April 2009 [15:20] - TODAY.AZ
Eight of crew members of the ship “Mira”, owned by Turkish company and waited for three months in the territorial waters of India, are Azerbaijani citizens, Azerbaijani Ambassador to India Tamerlan Garayev told APA.
The ambassador said the Azerbaijani citizens had an opportunity to leave the ship and the embassy intended to send them home, but the Azerbaijani crew members refused to leave the ship not receiving payment. Garayev said the embassy staff kept contacts with Azerbaijani citizens on board every day.

The ship was given by the bank instead of paying the debt to India. There are two other claimants for the ship, who have already appealed to the court. The Indian court is trying the case now and the ship will stay in the Indian waters until the court decision.
