Ganja City official, former police chief and several others summoned for questioning

Several officials of Ganja City were summoned for questioning due to grave crime committed in 2003-2004, law-enforcement officials told APA.
The Interior Ministry and General Prosecutor’s Office made statement about the crime on May 29, 2009. Two grave crimes committed in 2003-2004 were uncovered by the officers of Interior Ministry, Prosecutor’s Office, Ganja Police Headquarter and Justice Ministry Penitentiary Service.

The investigators identified that Ganja resident Shohrat Guliyev ordered to his townsmen Mehman Gahramanov, Elmar Gasimov, Ilham Shabanov and Anar Hasanov, who is in jail now, to kill his business rival, chandelier dealer at Sadarak Trade Center in Baku Ahmad Ibrahimov and promised 25 000 USD. Three arrived in Baku on December 18, 2003 and shot dead Ibrahimov near his apartment. Guliyev gave the promised money to the killers. Then he promised them 25 000 USD more for killing his townsman Kamal Alekperov. The criminal group killed Alekperov on March 22, 2004 near his house in Ganja and received money from Guliyev.

Shohrat Guliyev, Ilham Shabanov and Mehman Gahramanov were detained and are in pre-trial custody now. Police found heroin in Gahramanov’s car and Makarov pistol in Shabanov’s yard.

Deputy Executive Power of Ganja City Shahmali Javadov, former police chief Garib Hasanov and his assistant Choban Huseynov were also summoned for questioning on the case. More than 15 officials of Ganja City were summoned for questioning.

Spokesman for the Republican Prosecutor’s Office Ekldar Sultanov didn’t give details about their questioning and possible bringing to justice. He said the announcement would be made if necessary.
