As APA Bureau in Strasbourg reports, the first part of the workshop was dedicated to the situation in the South Caucasus media. Aflatun Amashov, Chairman of Azerbaijan’s Press Council, briefed the participants about the situation on media in his country.
Ali Hasanov, head of the socio-political department of the Azerbaijani Presidential Administration, talked about the issues related to media in both Azerbaijan in the region. Along with achievements in media and common trends in the three countries, there are some points not conforming to the European standards, he added.
Sharing his views on the seminar, Hasanov noted that the meeting’s main goal was to evaluate the works done in media field in the South Caucasus countries after their admission to the council of Europe: “As you know all three countries undertook certain commitments on the activity of Mass Media when they admitted to the Council of Europe. The main purpose of today’s conference is to assess the countries’ activities on how well they fulfill the commitments and the problems emerged during the implementation process. We will offer to work with all sides in the society for the purpose of preparing for the law on “defamation”. Hasanov stated that accepted all values of the Council of Europe and became the member of the organization by its own will. Therefore, we are committed to introduce European experience in our media.
