Head of ICRC office in Azerbaijan: It is early to say a concrete word as to whether Rafig Hasanov and Anar Hajiyev want to return or not

13 June 2009 [08:43] - TODAY.AZ
Release of Armenian-captured Azerbaijani servicemen Rafig Hasanov and Anar Hajiyev does not depend on the International Committee of the Red Cross, head of ICRC office in Azerbaijan told APA.
He said it depended on the wish of the captured persons.
“Talks are held with the captive, if he wants to return, negotiations are carried out with the related bodies of his state and the state where he is held. The problem is solved mutually,” he said.

Head of ICRC office in Azerbaijan said it was early to say a concrete word as to whether Hasanov and Hajiyev want to return or not.
“They are visited, contacted. We will inform his family after the issue is made clear. Later the related state bodies will be informed. Now I can not say anything,” he said.

Taking a stance on the statements of Azerbaijani state bodies that Hasanov underwent tortures in Armenia the head of ICRC office in Azerbaijan said visiting captives in Azerbaijan and Armenia was confidential.
“The information that we gain is delivered to the government agencies confidentially,” he said.

Expressing his view on the arrest of the persons after being released from captivity, ICRC official said they could not interfere with it.
“The fate of the person after being released from captivity is the internal affair of the state. We can not interfere with it,” he said.

He noted that they visited Armenian captives in Azerbaijan, dialogue was held with the related state bodies concerning their condition and necessary information was given.
