220 new HIV cases confirmed in Azerbaijan

A total of 220 new HIV cases have been confirmed in Azerbaijan in recent years, Health Ministry said.
As many as 213 of them are Azerbaijani citizens and 7 are foreigners; 188 are men and 25 women and HIV has developed into AIDS in 33 of them. Twenty people died of the disease during this period.

Total of 145 cases were caused by drugs; 90 of the 213 people got the disease abroad.

As many as 2,034 HIV cases have been registered in Azerbaijan since 1987; 78 are foreigners and 1,956 are Azerbaijanis. As many as 1,651 are men and 305 are women.

As many as 382 had AIDS and 260 people died of this disease in the country.
