Azerbaijan Press Council receives 247 complaints in first half of 2009

Azerbaijan's Press Council has released a report for the first half of 2009.
The Council received 247 appeals in the first half of the year, said the report.

Total of 23 of them were out of the council’s authorities and were sent to the relevant organizations, 224 appeals were addressed by the PC secretariat.

As many as 79 disputed issues were resolved and others were submitted to the relevant commissions of the council, including the commissions on complaints, prevention of “racket” journalism, solution of the problems between the press and the governmental organizations.

About 36 complaints were investigated by the commission on prevention of “racket” journalism and 24 were discussed at the Board of Governors of the Council.
