Belgium reports country's 1st swine flu death

31 July 2009 [09:12] - TODAY.AZ
Belgian officials are reporting the country's first swine flu death and say the patient had also contracted pneumonia.
The federal influenza agency says the woman was hospitalized on July 20 with symptoms of the A/H1N1 influenza and died 11 days later after "she developed a double viral pneumonia."

The agency's statement Thursday did not identify the patient or give her age. It says she lived in northern Belgium.

As of mid-July, Belgium had 126 confirmed cases of swine flu. Since then the government has reported several hundred new cases, AP reported.
