Azerbaijani MP says struggle against violence towards children must be toughened

"Domestic violence is one of the serious problems in Azerbaijan," member of parliament and chairman of the Republican Children's Organization Gular Ahmadova said.

Members of the ruling Turkish Justice and Development Party and MPs Ashkyn Asan and Alev Dedegil prepared a special project, which provides for more severe punishment against perpetrators of crimes against children. The MPs also suggested to use medicines to suspend sexual function of perpetrators of sexual violence against minors.

According to the Turkish Penal Code, perpetrators of depraved acts against children are held criminally liable, or are imposed fines.

If suggestions of women members of Turkish Parliament are taken into account, then this kind of criminals would be given a choice after serving part of sentence.

According to the MPs, criminals either should agree to serve remainder of the punishment or to agree to a suspension of sexual function.

"I can not say to what degree the use this kind of punishment is human. But I believe that in order to prevent such crimes, there should be special laws," she said.

Ahmadova is also against of demonstration erotic scenes on television before nine o'clock in the evening.

"These scenes definitely have a negative effect on the psyche of young children. Today, unfortunately, TV channels broadcast movies with erotic scenes during daytime. Some people, in response to my claim, say that those who watch such films, should see their positive aspects and not repeat the negative behavior in the life of the characters. In response, I want to say that the consciousness of young children are not so developed and they can not differ the bad from the good. For this reason, and given the practice of the United States and European countries, in our country, these films must also be broadcast at a certain time," she said.
