First Azerbaijani expedition reaches Uhuru peak of Mount Kilimanjaro

The first Azerbaijani expedition has set off for Mount Kilimanjaro.
A scientific and sport expedition headed by the Minister of Environment and Natural Resources and President of the Air and Extreme Sports Federation, Huseyn Bagirov, left Baku on August 11. The expedition made its way from the city of Arusha in Tanzania to the Uhuru peak of Mount Kilimanjaro, the official website for the Air and Extreme Sports Federation said.

The expedition is held under the slogan 'Azerbaijan reaching new heights together with Ilham'.  

The Azerbaijani expedition reached the Uhuru peak (5,896) of Mount Kilimanjaro. Members of the expedition raised the Azerbaijani flag and banners with Heydar Aliyev's words 'I am proud that I am Azerbaijani' and 'Azerbaijan reaching new heights together with Ilham'.    

It is the second long-term expedition organized by the Air and Extreme Sports Federation. Before, an expedition was conducted in the Antarctica. The delegation set off for the expedition on December 24, 2008, headed by the President of the Federation, Huseyn Bagirov.

The expedition, consisting of scientists and sportsmen, has a scientific, sport, political and symbolic significance. The mountain sports national team is included in its staff (on behalf of the Extreme Sports Federation) and the Heads of the Federation's Clubs 'Salavat' Ilgar Israfilov, 'A+A' Adil Farajullayev, and the Federation physician and mountain sportsman, Eldar Alakbarov, are participating in the expedition.

The famous mountain sportsman Yagub Alasgarov was invited by the Azerbaijani Mountaineering Federation to be included in the team's staff upon the proposal of the Air and Extreme Sports Federation.
