Azerbaijani state borders reliably protected: State Border Service chief

"Border guards detained 2,842 border violators and prevented narcotics smuggling in volume of 227 kilograms in January-July 2009," SBS Chief and Lieutenant General Elchin Guliyev said at the meeting on the occasion of the 90th anniversary of the State Border Protection.

Guliyev said 668 wanted persons were arrested in the report period. Moreover, the border guards withdrew the smuggled goods worth 2.05 million manat.

A mini parade was organized with the border guards' participation in the event. A number of young officers took an oath and were accepted to the border service.
