Costs of first Azerbaijani expedition to Mount Kilimanjaro disclosed

The first Azerbaijani expedition to the Mount Kilimanjaro cost 25,000 manat, the Minister of Environment and Natural Resources Huseyn Bagirov said at a press-conference.
"Private sources of the Air and Extreme Sports Federation have financed the expedition, but not the state," Bagirov said.

The first Azerbaijani expedition headed by the Minister of Environment and Natural Resources and President of the Air and Extreme Sports Federation Huseyn Bagirov made its way to the Uhuru peak (5,895 meters, the highest mountain peak in Africa) on August 16.

The Azerbaijani expedition lasted 37 days. It was made under the slogan 'Azerbaijan reaching new heights together with Ilham'.   

The first Azerbaijani expedition has a scientific and political significance, minister said.

"Members of expeditions from other countries were surprised with Azerbaijanis. Azerbaijanis will be recognized as extreme sportsmen in the world. Biological and geological samples taken on the Mount Kilimanjaro will be analyzed and results will be published. African collection will be delivered to the museum of Baku State University," Bagirov said.

The first expedition group Azerbaijan-Antarctica reached the highest top of the continent -Mount Vinson with 5,140 meters height in December 2008. The Azerbaijani expedition to Antarctica cost 250,000 manat.
