Azerbaijani ombudsman applies to transport minister

Ombudsman Elmira Suleymanova's address expressed regret at the fact that in recent years members of the Transport Ministry have allowed violations of the law, the ombudsman administration said in a statement.

The Ombudsman has asked Transport Minister Ziya Mammadov to take necessary steps to prevent similar incidents, to better educate ministry's staff, to explain to them their rights and responsibilities, powers, law and rules to punish employees who have committed violations, to monitor the activities of workers of the Transport Inspectorate under the law.

Azerbaijani national Raya Amirgulieva appealed to the Office of the Ombudsman with a complaint against the Road Safety Office of the Transport Ministry. The plaintiff provided a video showing the beating of her son Mehman Amirguliev by employees of the department.

Employees of the transport inspection and Azeryolservis remove state numbers from cars, take documents for a car, use physical pressure against drivers, beat, insult them, exceed their powers, which leads to fair dissatisfaction of owners of motor vehicles, the Office of the Ombudsman reported.
