4,845 people serve imprisonment for illicit drug turnover in Azerbaijan

Over 3,100 banned things, 747 cutting tools, 1,40l alcoholic drinks, 89 mobile phones were found in the penitentiary facilities of Azerbaijan in 2009, public affairs department of Justice Ministry’s Penitentiary Service said.

About 207 grams of narcotic drugs, including 153.8 grams of heroin was found in the penitentiary facilities last year.

In general, 41 facts were revealed.

A total of 22 prisoners, 16 visitors and 3 employees of the penitentiary facility, who attempted to smuggle narcotic drugs, were revealed.

Some 7 facts of illicit drug turnover were revealed in jails #1, 6, 10, 12 in December last year.

As many as 4,845 people are serving imprisonment for illicit drug turnover in Azerbaijan.
