Khojaly genocide victims commemorated in Ukraine

Initiated by the Donetsk regional organization of the Congress of Ukrainian Azerbaijanis (CUA) the event was part of the campaign 'Justice for Khojaly,' carried out by Russia's representation of Heydar Aliyev Foundation. Participants in the ceremony included public and political figures of Azerbaijan and Ukraine, representatives of the intelligentsia, active members of the diaspora and the media.

In his opening remarks CUA Donetsk regional organization head Malik Pirverdiyev said 18 years have passed since the Khojaly genocide, which entered world history as the bloodiest page. Unfortunately, international organizations and the international community have not yet given this tragedy a political and legal assessment and it is a historical injustice.

"By shutting eyes to the terrible genocide policy of Armenia, the international community in fact takes responsibility for this tragedy before the history," Pirverdiyev said.

A documentary 'When words freeze' was presented at the event. The film about the Armenian vandalism was produced by TREND as part of the Fund of State Support for the Development of Mass Media under the Azerbaijani President.

Speakers clearly stated at the event that Khojaly tragedy must be judged not only as a crime against the Azerbaijanis but also against humanity.

As many as 613 people were killed, 1,000 peaceful people of different age became invalid during Khojaly genocide. 106 women, 63 children, 70 old men were killed. Eight families were completely annihilated, 130 children lost one parents, while 25 both of them.1,275 peace residents were taken hostages, while the fate of 150 of them is still unknown.
