A conference to mark anniversary of the Khojaly tragedy took place at the University of Utah, Salt Lake City in the United States.

University of Chicago Professor Holly Shissler, a professor at the Technological University of Tennessee Michael Gunter, professor at the University of Wisconsin Shale Horowitz, professor Hakan Yavuz at University of Utah, David Soumbadze, fellow at the John Hopkins University in Washington as well as Azerbaijan's Consul General in Los Angeles Elin Suleymanov addressed the discussions entitled "Political and Social Origins of Ethno-Territorial Conflicts."
The speakers pointed to the danger posed by ideology of an aggressive mono-ethnic nationalism to the security and future of the Caucasus. Moreover, it was noted that unresolved Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict remains a major obstacle full integration of the region.
It was also stressed that tragedy of Khojaly will largely shape the mutual perception of the two peoples until a peaceful settlement to the conflict based on international law is secured.
The Armenian students and conference participants exchanged views during the conference.
