Ecology Ministry: 2010 to be seismically active in Azerbaijan

"Given the continuous jolts in the early 2010 at Alps-Himalayas rugosity (in China, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Iran, Turkey, Greece), in which Azerbaijan also locates, one can say that 2010 will be seismically active in the country," Ali Aliyev, senior official of the Azerbaijani Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources said.

According to him, typical seismically active places on the territory of Azerbaijan are the mountains of the Greater and Lesser Caucasus.

Aliyev also stressed that that the small jolts that occurred during the last four to five years in this area, prevent the powerful earthquakes.
