Number of children in Baku's kindergartens increases

The number of children in kindergartens has increased by 6,000 children in Baku, Azerbaijani Deputy Minister of Education said.
"Over the past two years 31 preschool facilities were renovated and equipped with modern equipment. As a result of the measures, the number of children involved in Baku's kindergartens has increased by 6,000 children. For the first time in the history of our country's independence, modern textbooks were delivered to kindergartens, " Deputy Minister of Education Iskender Iskenderov told the website of Azerbaijani ruling party today.

He said that 28 new kindergartens were commissioned over the past two years across the country. No preschool facility was built during the last 20 years.

Azerbaijan has recently put into operation 2,000 new school buildings for 450,000 pupils each.  "The Heydar Aliyev Foundation played a big role in restoration of school infrastructure.

About 300 new schools, kindergartens, orphanages, boarding schools were put into operation, repaired, renovated, restored and equipped with modern facilities.  About 708 schools and 10 district education departments were equipped with modern facilities, " he said.

He said that as a result of upgrading of infrastructure across the country, conditions for learning of 1,050,000 pupils (75% of the total number of pupils) were improved, " Iskenderov said.

As a result of the implementation of programs in school construction over the past decade, the number of secondary schools, working in two shifts, has decreased from 73,3 to 44,5%, while the number of children enrolled in the second shift - from 34 percent to 21%.
