Azerbaijani State Committee: Marriage age should be increased

"The marriage age should be increased up to 18 years to avoid early marriages, which have been taking place in Azerbaijan in recent years," deputy chairman of the State Committee on Family, Women and children Aynur Sofiyeva said at a meeting of the Azerbaijani Parliament dedicated on the family and marriage.

She said that the number of early marriages has recently increased by 11%.

"So, 11-13-year-old girls marry under parents' pressure in regions. The committee insists that a measure of responsibility should be imposed towards such parents", deputy chairman said.
