"It is planned to publish 111 textbooks in the 2010-2011 academic year. These books include 14 textbooks for first form, 40 - based on the curriculum for third form, books for teachers after consideration by the Council to assess the textbooks, as well as 57 textbooks for VI, VIII-XI forms, "Deputy Education Minister Isgandar Isgandarov said in an interview published on the website of the ruling party New Azerbaijan.
About 35 million copies of textbooks that meet modern standards and national-spiritual values of the country were published in 2003-2009.
Iskenderov said that training for teachers are planned to be held to implement the new Curriculum. They will teach in the first and third forms in 2010-2011 academic years.
This process will cover the first and second forms in the 2009-2010 school year. About 18,000 primary school teachers were trained and provided with exemplary learning materials.
Deputy Minister of Education said lycees will be opened in eight regions (Sumgait, Ganja, Mingechevir, Shirvan, Sheki, Lankaran, Guba and Agdash) within the work with gifted children. Baku will host the international Olympiad named after Mendeleev and other events.
