"Yesterday I signed a decree to increase safety on offshore platforms. With the decree, we once again insure ourselves. [...] However, our existing standards of ecological and technical safety are very high," Abdullayev said.
Also, according to Abdullayev, the blast on the Deepwater Horizon platform of BP in the Gulf of Mexico, which led to extensive leakage of oil, does not affect the activities of BP in Azerbaijan.
The explosion occurred on the Deepwater Horizon on April 20. Two days later the oil platform sank, and the incident resulted in damage to wells and oil spills. Currently, a huge oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico is located near the coast of the U.S. Louisiana State. BP has asumed full responsibility for the leak.
