A press conference was held on the outcomes of the 7th COE conference of the European Ministers responsible for Equality between Women and Men under the theme “Gender equality: bridging the gap between de jure and de facto gender equality” on May 25.

Director General of Human Rights and Legal Affairs, Council of Europe Philippe Boillat thanked the Azerbaijani government for hospitality and praised results of the conference.
Chairperson of Chair of the Council of Europe Steering Committee for Equality between Women and Men Iphigenia Katsaridou said the Action Plan adopted by the conference would be implemented with participation of 47 countries. The chairperson noted the plan outlines the ways of fighting against gender equality stereotypes, violation and discrimination.
The document also maps out financing mechanisms to solve gender problems.
“Azerbaijan has been applying this system for two years,” Katsaridou said.
When asked about how the Action Plan reflects the rights of women from Azerbaijan`s occupied territories, COE Director General of Human Rights and Legal Affairs Philippe Boillat said “protection of their rights is considered a priority since they face inequality the most”.
Huseynova highlighted the importance of the law on “prevention of domestic violation” adopted today by the Azerbaijani parliament. According to her, adoption of that law was a result of three-year effort. In this regard, she hailed the contribution of President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva.
