Azerbaijan, Germany discuss social security cooperation

On May 31, Azerbaijan's Minister of Labor and Social Protection of Population Fuzuli Alakbarov met isiting Parliamentary State Secretary at the German Federal Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs Ralf Brauksiepe.
They discussed prospects for developing the bilateral cooperation in the fields of labor and social security. Alakbarov highlighted the Azeri government's labor policy priorities.

“Over 850,000 new jobs have been created in Azerbaijan over the last 5 years, of which 79% was recorded n the regions. This shows how much importance the government places on this sector.”

Brauksiepe praised the Germany-Azerbaijan relations. He also hailed what the Azeri government had been doing to strengthen social security of the country's population.

“Despite the global financial and economic crisis Azerbaijan managed to have kept the level of unemployment stable.”

The meeting ended with the signing of a protocol encouraging the two ministries to work closely to improve legal basis for cooperation in the fields of labor and social security, and carry out joint programs aimed at strengthening social security of the disabled and unemployed. Under the protocol, the German Federal Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs will assist its Azeri counterpart in human resource development.
