19-year old soldier wins Azerbaijan's National Book Award

19-year old soldier Elkhan Garagan has been announced winner of the National Book award with his novel titled "A".
The young author was represented at the awarding ceremony by his brother as the soldier is currently serving in the army.

"Several years ago, Elkhan mother told me a boy in their family saves money to buy his own books. That's how new talented writers appear," people’s writer of Azerbaijan Chingiz Abdullayev said.

The jury awarded the second place to Ajdar Ola for his "Portrait Colors". Fahri Ugurlu with a collection of short stories and Summit Aliyev with his "Seven Steps towards the Sunset" (the author of only book in Russian) shared the third place.

Alabbas Bagirov for his novel "Rebel" and Eyvaz Allazoglu for his novel "Woodsman is coming back" got special prize of the National Book Award from the organizers and sponsors.

In total, 265 works were submitted for the National Book Award. The jury members toured six regions of the country to encourage authors to participate in the contest. The winners were awarded 3,000 manat, 2,000 manat and 1,000 manat respectively.
