The first International Community Policing Conference organized by OSCE Office has opened in Baku.

Representatives of Azerbaijani law-enforcement bodies, international organizations, embassies are attending the conference. Head of OSCE Office in Baku Ali Bilge Cankorel said this is one of the priorities of OSCE. He said activities basing on more modern methods are being carried out together with the State Traffic Police. Ambassador underlined that the community policing conference covered a number of regions of Azerbaijan.
“We have taught the Azerbaijani police the international practice so that they can work better concerning the relations between the police and people, fighting domestic violence, drug addiction. The community policing idea focuses on better service of the police to the people. Azerbaijan has also admitted that improvement of the relations between the police and community is effective for all sides. The amendments to the law on policing in the parliament prove this,” he said.
Deputy Interior Minister Oruj Zalov called the international conference a splendid example of Azerbaijan’s cooperation with OSCE. He said the protection of the democratic principles was considered a priority in Azerbaijan, strong state-building activities were developed.
“We are carrying out activities together with OSCE. The trainings held in the European countries as a result of the cooperation with OSCE helped us a lot,” he said.
The representatives of the law-enforcement bodies of a number of European countries will make speeches at the two-day conference.
