"Open season" or who is prohibited for hunting in Azerbaijan?

Reportedly, director one of the departments in Azerbaijani Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, Hickmet Alizadeh said that the country established time for wild animal hunting in 2010 to 2011.

Starting from 5th of June to October 23th hunting season for mountain goats is open;  from September 13 to December 25 for wild boars; from December 11, 2010 to February 5, 2011 for rabbits; from October 16, 2010 to February 26 2011 for beavers (nutria).

As far as the jackals and raccoons go, according to Alizadeh, "hunting them in 2010-2011 is forbidden. According to him, to hunt these animals must obtain permission of the Department of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan and the departments of ecology and natural resources.

"The cost of obtaining a single permit to hunt rabbits is 2,2 AZN on beavers - 1,65 AZN, mountain goats - 24,75 AZN and boars - 16,5 AZN", - said Alizadeh.

He also named the territories, where hunting is strictly prohibited. "The districts of Agdam, Khanlar, Goranboy, Dashkesan, Gedabey and Terter, as well as on the islands of the Caspian Sea, the green areas, protected areas, and around 1 km of cities and resort areas. In those territories hunting is prohibited" - added Alizadeh.
