For the first time ever, Georgia has published bilingual textbooks for national minorities in their own languages. The Georgian Education Ministry said that only 35% of the textbook material is in Georgian. The rest is in the minority languages. The textbooks are published for Azerbaijani, Russian and Armenian schools in Georgia.
History and geography textbooks were translated for schoolchildren from the seventh to the twelfth grade. They will be given to the kids free of charge. The textbooks in Georgian and Azerbaijani will be given to Azerbaijani schools in Marneuli later today. Georgian Education and Science Minister Dmitri Shashkin will attend the ceremony.
