S. Korea agrees to open-skies pact with Azerbaijan

Under the agreement, regular flights will be opened between Seoul and Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, the Ministry of Construction and Transportation said.

The agreement also allows code sharing between the flag carriers of the two countries to enhance business cooperation, and the easing of registration rules, it said.

Code sharing, a commercial agreement between two airlines, allows one company to put its identification code on another airline's flights in computerized reservations systems in an effort to boost revenue by effectively enlarging their flight and destination networks.

Azerbaijan is the first Central Asian country to establish an open-skies accord with South Korea.

Earlier this year, South Korea reached open-skies aviation agreements with China, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Myanmar and Ukraine. Yonhap
