Presentation of conception project on strengthening of municipalities

Opening the presentation, ERC management staff official Gubad Ibadoglu has informed about main directions of reforms carried out in the sphere of municipalities.

Then Rovshan Agayev, the coordinator of the "Local self-government and the role of municipalities in reduction of poverty in Azerbaijan" project has presented it. He noted that this the first systematic project developed in Azerbaijan and has enough advantages.

"There is need for specification and expansion of the competences of the municipalities in Azerbaijan. Especially it is necessary to pay special attention to construction and protection of buildings of educational, cultural and health institutions, reconstruction of water system and drainage systems, protection of historical and cultural monuments, assistance to the poor and old people," the project coordinator noted.

According to Agayev, another issue is increase of financial potential of municipalities, at present the budget of all municipalities comprises AZN 25m. The regional commission of the parliament has got acquainted with the conception. APA-Economics
