Some prisoners' punishment commuted

The trial on appeal of former chief of Nizami district police office Mushfig Medetov and two more prisoners ended in the Supreme Court.

The court commuted the imprisonment of Mushfig Medetov, Fariz Mammadov and Mushfig Selifov (brother of Nadir Selifov a.k.a Lotu Guli) to seven years in prison.

Medetov was arrested in 1996 and sentenced to 11 years in prison. Criminal case was again launched about him on October 7, 2005, he faced charges on articles 149 (rape) and 134 (threatening to kill or damage health) and was sentenced to 13 years in prison. Appeals Court commuted his punishment to 11 years.

Court of Grave Crimes sentenced Fariz Mammadov and Mushfig Selifov to 12 years in jail. Appeals Court commuted Fariz Mammadov's punishment by two years and Mushfig Selifov's by three years.

Nadir Selifov a.k.a Lotu Guli and six more defendants – Rehman Abulhasanov, Ershad Gahramanov, Fariz Mammadov, Mushfig Selifov (Nadir Selifov's brother), Ilgar Bedelov and Mushfig Medetov are accused of the case.

Court of Grave Crimes sentenced Nadir Selifov to 15 years in jail, Mushfig Medetov to 13 years, Rafiz Mammadov and Mushfig Selifov to 12 years, Abulhasanov and Gahramanov to 8 years and Bedelov to 5 years and a half month in jail.

Appeals Court commuted the sentences of Abulhasanov, Gahramanov and Bedelov by a year. Selifov will be kept in maximum-security prison. APA
