The two-day conference is being attended by representatives from World Customs Organization, Economic Cooperation Organizations, Interpol, World Health Organization, customs agencies of 21 countries and 17 pharmaceutical companies and other organizations.
Azerbaijan Customs Committee Chairman Aydin Aliyev underscored strengthening of joint cooperation in fighting counterfeit medicines, coordination of state agencies and private sector, development of special machinery for effective fight against the problem.
ECO Secretary General Khurshud Anvar said 60% of the counterfeit drugs in circulation were produced by the developed countries and 2mln people died from the harmful medications.
He added counterfeit drugs account for 10% of drug circulation in the world, APA reports.
The conference will conclude with a pres conference "Buying Medicine via the Net" on Feb. 9.
