Azerbaijan needs no talks on Russian gas imports, Natig Aliyev says

02 March 2007 [16:56] - TODAY.AZ
Azerbaijan's energy balance blueprint for 2007 is ready and the draft has been submitted to the Government, said Azeri Industry and Energy Minister Natig Aliyev.

He said this year's gas balance is to be approved soon, APA reports.

"I think Azerbaijan has ensured its energy security. If somebody wants to give something under unfair conditions and pretend to render assistance, we don't need it. Already, Azerbaijan doesn't depend on Russia's gas and doesn’t need it," he underscored.

He noted that the State Oil Company produces 13m cubic meters of gas per day, receives 9m cubic meters of associated gas per day from Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli field, 5.6m cubic meters of gas per day from Shah Deniz field.

"This is unique opportunity Azerbaijan has ever had. That's why there is no need for negotiating on Russian gas imports," he said.

Since early January, Azerbaijan refused to pay $235 per 1,000 cu m of Russian gas compared to $110 until 2007 which used to fuel the country's power stations and reoriented its stations to run on fuel oil.
