Alat-Astara road being upgraded

The project for upgrading 22 km Section of the Alat Astara Highway (Baku-Astara) has started Wednesday. The project is funded by the government of Azerbaijan ($94mln), the World Bank ($106.1mln) and Asian Development Bank ($200mln).

Turkey's Mak-Yol Inshaat Sanaye Turism ve Ticaret AS is the contractor, Azerbaijan's Azerinshaatservis is the subcontractor and Finnroad is the technical manager. The project lead-time is 18 months. The project also includes construction of a bridge and two road bridges. The 15meter wide highway will be in 4 tracks.

Alat-Astara highway is slated to be brought online by the end of 2009. APA-Economics
