Azeri ?mbudsman proposes to set up independent monitoring group for observing election process

The ombudsman of Azerbaijan Elmira Suleymanova made a proposal to set up independent monitoring group for observing the forthcoming parliamentary elections process in the country, Suleymanova stated on 20 July at the roundtable on the subject “The role of fair elections in building the democratic and legal state” with involvement of the Milli Mejlis deputies and the non-governmental organizations, Trend reports.
According to her, the monitoring group’s functions will include urgent investigation of complaints on the spot, reporting them to the Central Electoral Commission (CEC). The monitoring group members will be sent to the remotest parts of the country, to the compact residence places of refugees and the internally displaced people (IDPs). The ombudsman suggested the CEC chairman Mazahir Panahov to assist in carrying out trainings for the monitoring group members.   

According to the ombudsman, a broad range of works is planned to be carried out in jails, military units and the IDPs and refugee camps.
