The third anniversary of National Leader Heydar Aliyev's decease marked in Azerbaijan today.

People are visiting Heydar Aliyev's grave in Honor Alley, APA reports.

Heydar Aliyev was born May 10, 1923 in Nakhchivan. Having graduated Nakhchivan Pedagogical technical school in 1939, Heydar Aliyev studied in the faculty of architecture of the Azerbaijan Industrial Institute (present Azerbaijan State Oil Academy).

Heydar Aliyev was the department chief in the People's Interior Affairs and People's Commissariat Council of Nakhchivan ASSR in 1941; from 1944 he began working in the state security bodies. Heydar Aliyev was Deputy Chairman of State Security Committee of the Cabinet of Azerbaijan SSR in 1964, from 1967 he was the chairman and promoted to Major-general. At the same time Heydar Aliyev got special higher education in Leningrad (present St. Petersburg), in 1957 he graduated from the faculty of history of the Azerbaijan State University.

In 1969 Heydar Aliyev was appointed to the post of First Secretary of the Central Committee of Azerbaijani Communist Party. In December 1982 he became candidate member of the Soviet Politburo and was promoted to the post of first Deputy Prime Minister of the Cabinet of Soviet Union.

Heydar Aliyev was the deputy of the Supreme Council of USSR for 20 years, for 5 years he was the deputy chairman of the Supreme Council of USSR. In 1987 Heydar Aliyev resigned from his posts, as a protest to the policy pursued by the Central Committee of the Soviet Communist Party and especially by Mikhail Gorbachev. In July, 1991 he left the Soviet Union Communist Party. Returning to Azerbaijan in 1990 Heydar Aliyev first lived in Baku, and then in Nakhchivan, at that time he was elected the deputy of the Azerbaijani Supreme Council.

In 1991-1993 Heydar Aliyev became the speaker of the Supreme Council of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic and the vice-speaker of Azerbaijan Supreme Council. In 1992 Heydar Aliyev was elected the chairman of YAP in the foundation conference held in Nakhchivan.

June 15, 1993 Heydar Aliyev was elected the speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament, on parliament's decision Heydar Aliyev began acting as President on July 24. Heydar Aliyev was the president of Azerbaijan in 1993-2003. Heydar Aliyev died in the U.S. Cleveland Clinic on December 12, 2003.
