18 December 2006 [16:25] - TODAY.AZ
"The situation is normal in the capital, no tension is observed at present. But the number of crimes has increased this year contrasted to that of last year. We are deeply concerned about felonies as deliberate murder, kidnapping and others. The number of deliberate murder has reduced by one case," Baku Main Police Office chief Maherram Aliyev stated.

Half of the crimes happened 5-10 years ago remained closed, but most of them are revealed.

"Only 5 murder cases of 62 remain closed up to now," he said. Chief noted that the increase is observed only in misdemeanors.

Thus, hooliganism has increased by 231, economical crimes by 462, public properties larceny by 51, APA reports.

"79 per cent of the crimes in 11 months have been revealed. The final indicators will be released at the end of the year. Panicky crimes were very few in 2006. The other interesting fact is that 96 crimes have been committed against foreigners. 24 of them are closed. We attach great importance to the issue," he added.
