Baku to host 1st conference of Tehran Convention members

According to the UN Environment Program (UNEP), industrial pollution, toxic and waste radioactive substances, uncontrolled fishing of sturgeons, death of the number of the marine fauna species exert negative influence on the Caspian Sea.

The 1st conference of the member states of the Framework Convention on the protection of the Caspian marine environment (Tehran Convention), be held in Baku on May 23-25, will be devoted to the Caspian Sea pollution problems.

According to UNEP Executive Director Achim Steiner, the regional cooperation within the frame of the Tehran Convention should contribute to the sustainable management of the economically important natural resources of the Caspian Sea.

The conference participants will consider the draft protocols defining the certain obligations of Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan in the sphere of biological diversity conservation. Kazinform
