Azay Guliyev: "Armenians promised $500,000 in a reward for Ramil Safarov's head"

31 January 2008 [16:54] - TODAY.AZ
It is necessary to ensure Ramil Safarov's safety, Azerbaijani MP Azay Guliyev said, according to Novosti-Azerbaijan.

"Our main task is to ensure Ramil Safarov's safety, as Armenians promised $500,000 in reward for Ramil Safarov's head. The court, held on January 29 of 2008, created a legal basis for further provision of his rights and security and we will strive for it", he said.

It should be reminded that on January 29 of 2008 the Budapest city court declined the appeal of the defender of convicted Azerbaijani officer Ramil Safarov about releasing him from 8 months conditional imprisonment.

Guliyev noted commenting on the claim that the claim was morally important to us.

"The thing is that the term of his preliminary imprisonment has expired. The Hungarian Court did not pay attention to it, despite Safarov's problems, connected with his not knowing the language", he noted,

In accordance with the decision of the Budapest city court, on April 13 of 2006, Ramil Safarov, officer of the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan, was found guilty of deliberate murder of Armenian officer Gurgen Markaryan on February 19 of 2004. The two officers were attending the NATO English language courses in Budapest, arranged by the Hungarian University of National Defense in the framework of NATO Program "Partnership for Peace" and was sentenced to life imprisonment.

Safarov noted that he committed the crime reacting to Markaryan's abusing actions targeting Azerbaijan.

On February 22 of 2007, the Budapest city court considered the appeal of Azerbaijani officer Ramil Safarov and upheld the decision of the first instance court of April 13 of 2006.
