Second monitoring on avian flu to be held in Azerbaijan

The second monitoring of 2008 for prevention of avian flu will be initiated in Azerbaijan on February 18.

Spokesman for the State Veterinary Service under Azerbaijan's Ministry of Agriculture Yolchu Khanveli said that the monitoring will cover the Absheron peninsula, Devechi, Salyan, Agjebedi and Lenkeran regions, Novosti-Azerbaijan reports

The monitoring is carried out by a special commission, composed of the specialists of the State Veterinary service, Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, Ministry of Health, Society of Hunters and Institute of Zoology of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Science.

The spokesman also added that the situation with avian flu  is normal in the country. A monitoring not revealing the presence of a dangerous flu virus in the country has been arried out this year.

At the same time, the ban on hunting, use and sale of poultry and its import from neighbor Turkey, Ukraine, Russia, Poland and Iran, is still effective.
