Azerbaijani Defense Ministry sends questionnaire to Ukrainian company in connection with crashed Mig-29

13 February 2008 [17:00] - TODAY.AZ
The search of the flight recorder and pilots of Azerbaijan’s Mig-29 air force jet, which crashed into the sea on January 29, continues, spokesman for Defense Ministry, Lieutenant-Colonel Eldar Safarov told APA.

“Perhaps, the air force jet crashed into a shallow place and its parts have been covered with sand, or stream has taken it away. Of course all these are suppositions,” he said.

Eldar Safarov also said that search is being carried out in broader area. According to him, forces of Defense Ministry and Emergencies Ministry, State Oil Company and State Border Service have been involved in the search.

Eldar Safarov refuted the report that Azerbaijani Defense Ministry appealed to Ukrainian Defense Ministry for help.

Ukrainian Defense Ministry told APA that Azerbaijani Defense Ministry sent a questionnaire to get technical parameters of Mig-29.

“We sent Azerbaijan’s fax to Ukrspetsexport State Company, as the company is engaged in the sale of the air force jet,” the ministry said.

Ukrspetsexport State Company confirmed that they received such a questionnaire through fax from Azerbaijan. The representative of the company did not comment on the content of the questionnaire, only said it was connected with the license.

“License for selling Mig-29 belongs to Ukrspetsexport. Azerbaijan’s appeal is being investigated and will be answered in a week,”  company’s representative said.
